Netheredge Hall is most likely Kenwood Hall . with a possibility of it being Nether Edge Hospital

Nether Edge Hall was a great "Northern Soul" venue in the early/mid seventies. Can't remember the exact building, except that it was an oldish place and close to the old hospital, but the guys who go in OKEH Cafe will know for sure. It was mostly records, Dean Parrish, Frank Wilson, Dobie Gray etc, with a spattering of Motown. Dancers were usually guys dancing on their own, performing acrobatics to the fast beat of the music. Northern Soul is still popular in Sheffield, with pubs having regular nights dedicated to the cause (Keep The Faith). Sheffield Live FM, also available on line, has a great show on Thursdays 5-6PM called Soul Casino I saw Jimmy Clitheroe at The Lyceum in 1964! madpoet
Nether Edge Hall was situated on NetherEdge Rd , about 50yds before the corner of Glen rd on RHS going downhill . opposite that was a greengrocers /grocers where my aunt used to shop . At the back of NetherEdge Hall there used to be tennis courts (WW2 and before )These were built on in about 1956-8, the red brick semis are still there on Glen Rd & round corner on Ashland Rd ,I lived at 12 Glen Rd and I remember the hall still being used when our family moved into the brand new house. Kristienc
Thanks a lot, its great to be able to share some pictures with her when I next go. She used tp go with my Uncle Dan and his friends most weeks. I never realised she was into Northern Soul until now, so its a pretty cool thing to find out!
