gnvqsos
They used to subsidise production & fix prices, don't you remember the butter mountain? But the mountains were of butter produced by cows not bacon dripping.Pigs have never been covered by the CAP and EU,although beef was stockpiled this way. What would a mountain of pigs look like-it would be very unstable? Deep freeze storage in a warehouse. Some 2.4m^2 would hold some 4 tonne of pork. Assuming racking 8 pallets high and taking into account floor space for FLT/REACH. Makes me wonder if the bacon offcuts will start making their way onto the black market instead of being fed back to the pigs!

Think the dietary requirements certainly of breeding pigs are a bit more scientific than that but can't understand why the animal cannot be dealt with in the usual manner of any slaughtered animal, assuming they are old enough. fake
Oh God not another the farmers are hard up and its the supermarkets fault thread. Aren't these the same farmers who get public subsidies to the tune of thousands? Stop the farmers subsidies and then I may have some sympathy. The farmer subsidies go to landowners based upon acreage. 1/3 of farmers rent land of off these landowners who claim the subsidy! A fair few farmers are hard up, they pay rent and get no subsidy. Whereas some idle landowners collect rent and subsidy.

You mean people like the Queen for instance who took over £7M in subsidies last year and her son Charles took almost £500,000. But the ones that are hard up should do what others would do in that situation, that is sell up and move on just like the rest of us would have to.
