Refused access to medical specialist without painkillers

Recommended Posts

He's done that, multiple Doctors at the same practice all said the same thing.

As far as i understood it that is not how it works, her or for that matter anybody's G.P is not a specialist in any thing medical they are General Practitioners and i may i say usually very good at it, but some times they get it wrong so a patient is given the right to an independent second opinion, which in every case i have known you would be referred to an hospital specialist,

Here is the lowdown on getting a second opinion, if you are not happy with the initial doctor:

So, yes you are entitled to a second opinion, however it seems the second opinion is only carried out by a doctor at the same level of expertise as the first.

I suppose I could be wrong, but a 2nd opinion is just that, the opinion of another GP.

If everyone had the right to demand an appointment with a specialist whenever they didn't like what the GP said then specialists would have no time to do anything except mostly agree with GPs.

Yes you make some sense, what i put in my post is what my doctors have done but that does not mean that is what they are obliged to do, it maybe that it would be ok to see another GP independent of your own doctor.

"Every case I have known" - in other words, one case, your own. Second opinions are not given by specialists, they are given by GP's.
