Angry atheists rant thread.

Just to get things clear here- could you have a male atheist? or a black atheist? or an intelligent atheist? or a stupid atheist?

Of course you can, but the words added together have not become a much repeated derogatory meme like 'militant atheist' has become.

This is why I keep asking for examples, and you keep dodging, of why you think it is relevant to call somebody a 'militant atheist' ahead of say 'militant humanist'.

The precise definition of militant is irrelevant.

You can have an atheist that's black, white, male, female, intelligent, stupid and a militant humanist/secularist/socialist/fascist etc etc.

Once again it's the ideology the person is espousing that you attach the label militant to. Atheism doesn't have an ideology confirming the fact that you're still attempting, and failing miserably, to build that strawman.

I was asking 645, as he seems to be saying you can't have a militant atheist, because atheism is an absense of belief, so I'm wondering if, by that reasoning, it would similarly mean that you couldn't have a male/black/intelligent/stupid atheist?

Just trying to work out what he's talking about really.

You could have an atheist who's militant about something, but I doubt it would be about his/her atheism.

No, I'm not 'dodging', I've explicitly said that I'm not going to give examples, as doing so, IMO, is not going to progress things, and will, IMO, just increase the confusion further.

Perhaps you could give some examples of how atheists are never militant? Not sure how, but, as you seem to be so much into examples, you might be able to come up with something?

So you can have an atheist that is black, but they wouldn't be a black atheist?

I'm not attempting to build a strawman, just trying to make some sense out of what you're trying to say here.

A claim I've not made though. So your use of the term 'strawman' is somewhat ironic.

So please explain how my lack of belief in a god manifests itself in an 'aggressive' manner without using any tenets from established ideologies/world views.

OK.....

Would they be a militant atheist while they were being militant about something other than atheism? Or would they be a non-militant atheist being militant (about something else).

Actually, could you even have a non-militant atheist? would they have to be being a non-militant atheist (about something else?).

I know it's not aimed at me but,

An atheist not being militant;

"I like zombie novels"

"It's amazing how cheap second hand digital guitar equipment is these days, I've just grabbed myself a real bargain on an unlimited track recorder!"

"I wonder if telekinesis is possible?"

If they chose to identify themselves as a black atheist then of course but all that it would say about them is that they are a black man that doesn't believe in god. Where's the militant in that?
