callippo Posted October 1, 2012 Share Posted October 1, 2012 if you work out the value of the low coins as opposed to annual salaries you will find that a 1/2p coin in 1971, is worth somewhere between 5p and 10p now. average annual salary in 1971, when the new 1/2p was introduced, was £2000 i.e. £5.48 per day which adds up to 1096 1/2ps. in 2012, average annual salary is £26,000 i.e. £71.23 per day. Divide that by 1096, and you get £0.06p. so probably it's time up for 1p and 2p, but not 5p and definitely not 10p. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
