kensimmo
Does anyone recall the forerunner of the present Gate which stands at the end of Claywheels Lane? The old one stood further forward and was demolished when Halifax Road was widened sometime in the early 1970's I had many a happy night in there and in the Travellers next door during the tenure of both Piggy Wilson and Fred Johnson Does anyone recall either pub,the characters who frequented them or the two ex landlords? arrodbo
I was in the old Gate pub with my girlfriend on the night JFKennedy was assassinated in 1963. I wasn,t quite 18 yrs old and the place was like a morgue when the news broke. On a more pleasant note we got married 3 yrs later and have been wed. 40 years this March.
