Plain Talker
I note your use of the word "impolite" surely being impolite is not a cause for the blood letting that the Danish cartoons and ensuing real or imagined slurs on prophets ,who are no more than simple humans and are not to be confused with deity's Having seen some of the so-called "cartoons", which prompted the riots a couple of years ago, with their pornographic nature, and having seen for myself the obscenities contained in some of them, I can actually understand why some people were grossly offended by them. There is a right to freedom of speech/ freedom of opinion, sure, but I do think that many of those so-called "cartoons" took that far, far beyond the pale, and were deliberately intended to provoke extreme reactions from even the mildest of people. But 99.9% of those rioting never saw the cartoons. They simply took the word of some other nutter that they should be offended and go out and kill folks. Mobs tend to be motivated by the opinions of a small group of people without any consideration of the salient facts.

PaliRichard
A bit like religion as a whole then:D But you've demonstrated that you know very little about religion even on a gross level already. So by making this remark in response to this from boyfriday Mobs tend to be motivated by the opinions of a small group of people without any consideration of the salient facts.
seems a little pot/kettle. You're saying that religion is akin to mobs being motivated without considering the facts yet the very fact that you've demostrated you know little about religion shows you're acting in the same way as the 'mobs' you're relating religion to. MrMoran
But you've demonstrated that you know very little about religion even on a gross level already. Whats to know? Some people believe in god, sensible people dont. Some people accept they are the masters of their own destiny. Sensible people dont.

Watch the tv, read the papers, everything anyone wants to know about religion and the trouble it causes can find all the info there.

Sensible people dont.
Well for one, as I've already pointed out not all religions believe in God. Two, although I don't believe in God I know some very sensible Theists and some complete idiot atheists, belief in a deity, no matter how silly it may seem is not a measure of how sensible someone is on the whole. Three, the religious (like the none religious) contain a mixture of people, some who believe they are the master of their own destiny. Some that don't. Watch the tv, read the papers, everything anyone wants to know about religion and the trouble it causes can find all the info there. That's not religion, that's sensationalism, that's why it's on the TV and in the papers. Most religion doesn't make the news.
