Number 12, and it's our first birthday...the initial aim of Box Jams was to play the kind of music we weren't hearing around Sheffield: from proper electro/Detroit/Chicago/Hague/go-go/disco/Warp classics to more leftfield new releases (without getting thrown out). Surprisingly, our expectations of playing to two Legowelt fans and the bar man have been slightly exceeded: in the last year we've had full dancefloor finishes (at 12.30am), and been asked to DJ at many fine Sheffield nights, plus on line-ups alongside DJ Stingray, The Forgemasters, The Black Dog, snd, Oris Jay (at eSC), Alunageorge, Becoming Real, Demdike Stare and a load of others. Thanks to everyone who's come down or put us on, we appreciate it

 

Kabal plotter and agitator extraordinaire DJ Pipes played an incredible set for us at #8 back in May, dropping everything from DJ Parrot's Crooked Man project to Bela Lugosi's Dead, so we had to get him back down for this special session; he's been biding his time between then and now with a few bits and bobs, from kick-starting the Boiler Room Sheffield take-over to reworking Toddla T's Watch Me Dance album with Ross Orton for Ninja Tunes. Expect to again hear another side to his record collection, with plenty of gems from the vaults and strictly no mp3s...

 

The bar session is pre-club hours (9pm til 12.30am-ish), heated courtyard out back, classic videogame/Detroit dance-off footage projected in the bar, decent spirits/world beers on sale, nice bar staff (thanks for all your help Dave), in a generally idiot-free environment hidden just off West St. Requests on the wall if there's anything you'd like us to play.
