kenkoplant
Hi everybody I am trying to find out if there was ever a coal mine at Blyth near Retford In 1958 I rode in a cycle race near to Blyth that was sponserd by a colliery. If there was never a colliery at Blyth can any one tell me the names of the nearest ones. I am writing a short story and I wold like to get it as accurate as possible. Any ex miners or historians on this forum? I hope that someone can help. Thanks Ken
maxmaximus
I think Harworth Colliery is probably the closest.

Longcol
I think Harworth Colliery is probably the closest. I'd agree. I remember as a kid 50 years ago we used to go to Blyth on the way to Clumber Park from Rossington near Doncaster. The road by Warworth was between the colliery and the pit tip and the waste was carried in buckets on high wires over the road. ps Harworth is just over the border in Nottinghamshire.
