Does the Sheffield forum attract or deter people from investing in Shefield

Recommended Posts

I would imagine any firm proposing to locate or invest in Sheffield would conduct due dilligence. So I doubt that the forum would throw up too many surprises. It is more likely that the attitude to Clegg would put off investment from Government sources, but folks looking to locate a business would be more put off by lack of airport, lousy links to Manchester, and the council's war on motorists. They don't need the forum to tell them that.

Bear in mind at this point that it's Sheffielders that elect Clegg to parliament with a large majority in the first place. And would the reaction to Clegg be any different anywhere else in the UK?

Maybe some of the more partisan-minded in government might be put off by the lack of Conservatives getting elected in Sheffield, but if that's the case they might need to sort themselves out rather then acting out of spite.

I'd have thought that there has already been so much Gvt investment in Sheffield (in terms of civil service administrations and departments (re-)located here) in the past 20-odd years, that the city is unlikely to get any more for quite a while anyway.

Certainly, I doubt the Cons would increase what has traditionally constituted a Labour voting base (civil service employees) any further, while they get to decide where the pennies get spent ;)

I think a casual reader would impressed with the quantity of right-leaning comments. In fact I would imagine the comments here are far more reactionary than those found circulating in Tunbridge Wells.
There is still the old "Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire" tag lurking in the background though!.................enough to put off a lot of investors.Sheffield is just another post industrial northern town overweight with public sector employment!..........all very well, but as we know the public sector consumes wealth whilst not generating any!

Large scale wealth creation has eloped to other countries and I cannot see any real reason why people would want to invest in Sheffield on any scale........I wish I could!

I think recent (70/80s) history plays a part. I think a lot of big business owners still remember those times when they think of South Yorkshire in general.

I know it was a long time ago but negative conatations stick like mud.

For the most part, it will have no effect at all the AMP illustrates that to a point. It's location and proximity to the m1 will help as well. That said I can't believe sheffield forums over riding battle cry of "must be cheap" doesn't put off one or two higher end retailers from coming here or even a few start-ups.

Anyone born since 1970 will be more open-minded,so any entrepreneur under 42 will consider Sheffield, and may be swayed by excellent acces to the PD,M1 and two top football teams.
