willman
I've actually been advised that an electric shower won't provide the pressure for one of those big shower heads. Tad confused now.

An electric shower works off mains pressure-you wont get higher pressure than that -but you may need a high KW shower. For proper advice consult diynot.com
carosio
Fixed head type will use more electric and water. Personally, prefer hand held type. Can't really understand why you can't set the head so you can stand in any position? The highest rated showers (10kw) might not be able to supply enough water flow to be effective on a large fixed head.

handypandy
An electric shower works off mains pressure-you wont get higher pressure than that An electric shower may have mains pressure supplied to it, however its output relies on how fast it can heat the incoming water. A higher Kw unit will provide better output pressure, but of course needs a higher rated cable. Depending on how far away from the consumer unit the shower is and bearing in mind the price of 10mm cable (and the cost of installing it) it is often more economical to fit a mixer shower which will certainly have a better flow rate.
