chem1st
Dole dwellers would soon start looking for work if you removed the ability to buy their vices with their benefits. We already have EBT style cards issued over here and they have been for quite a few years now. "AZURE cards". They can only be spent in a few major supermarkets (what about small businesses? - we are creating monopoly organisations if only a few accept and can handle payment) That said - There are places where you can swap AZURE credit for cash. Anna B
Considering the government has gambled all our money away (and lost) why shouldn't we gamble their's?

So you'll also be for all people that work, to be told what they must spend their wages on. If people want to drink & smoke that is up to them, as has been said a lot of people on dole have worked most of their lives, and are victims of circumstances. Anyway being a cigarette smoker and drinker, is not just restricted to the people on benefits, people who work also do it try telling them the same. Just nipping out to bang head, sharply on wall:loopy:

I am all for promoting the use of such tokens with smaller local businesses, as opposed to the major supermarkets etc. Pump the money into local businesses/shops

chem1st
Mr X gets £100 in dole and buys £100 fags/whisky (80% of which is tax). Mrs Y gets £100 in dole and buys £100 of imported food (0% of which is tax). Mr X is voluntarily reducing his dole to £20 by paying more than his fare share of taxes with his dole. Mrs Y is taking the mickey, she is sending her money abroad and not paying any tax with her dole. Why is Mr X the saint vilified, whilst Mrs Y who bleeds the system dry is spoken of highly? LeMaquis
About half the population receive benefits of about £200 billion in total. If the above statistics are right then a large number of people think their own spending should be controlled. For example, some of those on child benefit think they shouldn't be able to buy Nike trainers for their kids and some on working tax credits feel they shouldn't have a holiday. And then there's the question of enforcement. How many people would it take to enforce everyone's expenditure? A lot of people work and get benefits so how is the split enforced? How do you ensure that someone only spends their wages but not their tax credits on cigs? Completely unthought through and unworkable proposals by people with large chips on their shoulders.
