The principle of a Demonstration.

Recommended Posts

If someone has deep beliefs that something is wrong in society, he may join up with other people and demonstrate in a peaceful manner to "pin his colours to the mast" and tell the whole world that what he has seen is WRONG.

Any counter demonstrations to this would infer that the counter demonstrators disagree with the principle of the demonstration and think that the alleged actions are ok.

Is this how demonstrations work?

In principle yes that is the theory. However what tends to happen with demonstrations is if they are left wing or socialist in nature. They usually include hangers on in the guise of the Socialist Workers Party or in its other guise UK Uncut

If they are right wing in nature then the BNP and the EDL will rally to make a particular point.

In short there are groups out there that like to protest.

Are you saying then that certain groups should not be allowed to protest because other people may not like them?

No because that is against free speach. I'm just saying that there are groups out there that will jump on every bandwagon ie Socialist Worker Party.

I still think they should be able to protest. So long as they dont start to think about squatting or occupying places such as occupy did in Sheffield.

Surely there has never been a protest group that everyone likes?

It would not be a protest group then.

So your point is that it is fine for people to demonstrate so long as nobody gets upset about it?:hihi:

I think the protest against the Iraq war most people agreed with. Its just Tony Blair ignored the wishes of the majority in favour of George Bush.

I agree with that. In that situation would anyone who opposed the demonstration be seen to support the war in Iraq?
