RootsBooster Posted October 13, 2012 Share Posted October 13, 2012 A tragic case of internet stalking, paedophilia, smear campaigns, blackmail, bullying, physical violence and as a result, suicide. On September 7th Amanda Todd, from Vancouver, posted a video on Youtube. It was a silent video telling her story through a series of hand-written notes. The video is . On October 10th (last Wednesday) she was found hanged, she died aged 15. It all started when she received flattering compliments online at 12 years old, she naively raised her top to a stranger online, at his request. Her Nightmare began from there. Over the next 3 years she moved schools several times, each time her online stalker managed to infiltrate her new circle of friends and turn them all against her. In the end it was just too much. To understand more you'll have to watch her video, it's nearly 9 minutes long but if you are going to watch it, please do read every note card she holds up. I was appalled (but possibly not surprised) that many Youtube users have made nasty comments about her. I know this won't happen here, on our/my beloved Sheffield Forum Bullying is a worry for all parents. Cyberbullying and online predators are an additional and more recent worry. molly44 Posted October 13, 2012 Share Posted October 13, 2012 it just shows how much the new generation thinks that fitting in is the only thing that matters. its heart breaking, and why if the parents knew the full details, didnt they intervene in some way. surly thats what parents are for, guidance in difficult times. a teenager now matter how mature needs the love and protection of them. As you read it, it seems she was trying to meet new friend's but was easily led & then dumped on from a great height. larky Posted October 13, 2012 Share Posted October 13, 2012 Have just read this and is very sad indeed and what can one say really very sick individuals out there which ive always known Its sad how the School she was bullied never done nothing and Schools dont tend to do enough i feel , often also kids wont tell parents in this case she well may have felt too embarrassed very sad she could not have anyone person to tell Ive personally always hated bullies and always shall do was bullied at School one time also and had a cigarette but pressed into the back of my hand by this big heavy guy whom was one of the School bullies i was a new lad at school and fights i got into with the odd bully as one can only take so much , you have to stand up to them when theyre on their own is best as theyre big with their friends beside them as was always the case i found bullies always with a gang Ye this story is so sad and her parents are bound to feel such for sure just a pity they never picked up on their daughters feelings and these predators like that animal saying such and only after one thing and not friendship, should be hauled before a court and it should not matter about his age whatever age for such is evil and should be a long time behind bars with being bullied himself Ive normally believed in an eye for an eye in life although now i live life with the thinking of what comes around goes around ? But very sad story indeed , the crowd of Bullies should all be brought to justice and i mean also the ones whom like to watch Evil rats the lotta them , just a pity the young lass never it seems had anyone to talk to and tell shes been to embarassed to tell her parents regards the flashing but one person at that School at least shouldve went forward to tell about the bullying That guy doing and saying such just to have sex with a young underage girl whom only was wanting friendship he is the lowest of the low and should be brought to justice Very sad story .. There is no excuses for any person like that guy doing and saying such only to win her confidence to abuse the lass it seems and then after such downing the lass to others whom wickedly also went against her they are just as bad i reckon, and they all should be brought to justice with that guy especially being jailed and for a long time should certainly not get away with such RIP to the wee girl ..but as sais they should be hounded for such bullies should have no place in society and that guy is an evil we shi-bag whom should be exposed .. I doubt it, they would class it as bullying. You should be ashamed to make such vile comments and trying to score points on the back of this poor girl's death. As far as I'm aware, it was well known, she even moved schools several times. It leads me to think (about Amanda's case and past cases from experience) in some cases what can a parent do? How can you stop bullying, especially online? Its terrible but I imagine some on here would class what they did to her as "free speech". I don't think they would.
