MrMoran
Has anyone else heard of schools using money provided for kids on a statement for other things and not the kids who hold the statement? I heard a worrying tale from a mum at school who tells me her child has a 20 hour statement but her lad gets less than 5 hours a week. His special needs class has been abolished and the parents were not told. His mentor has been side stepped into another post. He gets none of the extra lessons and coaching he needs and has been supplied money for, this is essential to help him maintain his place at a mainstream school and now his work and behaviour has taken such a dip that the school are talking of excluding him. All behind the parents back by the way. To make matters worse this lad wouldnt get into another mainstream school because the school he is at have said they "will not be able to release his funding" yet give no explanation as to why. Without this extra money his parents will have no choice but to send him to a special school and thats the last thing the lad wants.
ronthenekred
If this is true would it not be wise to mention the school which would in turn pressure them into rethinking their policy?
cgksheff
They should check his statement as they may often include the phrase "to be used flexibly". Funding procedures changed in September this year but for a 20+hrs Statement his entitlements should be clear. Here is a good website and a model letter at the bottom of the page for use if needed: http://www.ipsea.org.uk/What-you-need-to-know/Common-problems.aspx#NonImplementation Funding for a 20+hr Statement should still move with the child. Did you realise that schools have to account for the use of these funds?Perhaps you should write to your MP suggesting a mechanism which will tie funding to a named individual.Perhaps in addition, you could post this on the website as an open letter. That would testify to your sincerity and concern. skinz
Why would i need to do that? Because your sincerity and concerns are well documented as being a tad less than genuine. (The straw that broke the camel's back. Cry Wolf..) and such the like. Simples.
