I have two certificates, one marriage and one death, dated 1905 and 1915.

Both give the address as Factory Lane, Wadsley Bridge.

I cannot locate Factory Lane on any map. :(

Can anyone pinpoint it for me please? :help:

Have checked in a 1911 street directory, cannot locate a Factory Lane in Sheffield. Have you tried looking on the 1911 Census this is obtainable free online

Thanks for your reply - I don't think that Wadsley Bridge was part of Sheffield back then, I'm sure it came under Wortley.

I'll look at Census 1911, I didn't realise it was free. Thanks.

Looking at the sequence of entries in the 1911 Census,

Factory Lane would have been above Wadsley Railway

Bridge. It must have been close to the Pheasant

Public House at the junction of Trafalgar Road and

Fox Hill Road, although I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

I was also unaware that nearby Maidstone Road used to

be called Mount Pleasant Road in 1911 and today's Halifax

Road (below the railway bridge) was known as Sheffield Road.
