How much would drinks prices have to rise before you stop going to the pub?

How much would drinks prices have to rise before you said enough and stopped going to the pub?

There seems to be a steady increase in drinks prices in pubs around the country. I was recently charged £3.60 for a pint of ordinary hand pulled ale in a Sheffield bar, and witnessed a guy order a pint of Coke, receive a glass full of ice and some draught cola for which the barman was asking £3.50. He simply turned round and walked out of the bar without paying or touching his drink.

How much would you pay before you turned and walked out? Or have you already been priced out of the pubs?

Don't often visit the pub anymore, but there are a few pubs I still visit occasionally, I won't pay more than £2, unless it's a special occasion. I will walk out of a pub based upon price, make a point of asking the price or looking at the prices up by the side of the bar now to avoid ordering a drink and wasting it/costing the pub money.

To be fair, lots of pubs should state the price before pouring, especially if they charge above £2.50 a pint, to avoid wastage.

Pubs I visit more often beer ranges from £1.60- £2.00,

£1 or under from shop.

Homebrew a lot less.

depends on ones level of income and the proportion of that which is considered to be expendable.

I am happier paying £3.50 a pint for a really well-kept pint of real ale than £2 for a pint of Carling or some other mass produced chemical garbage. In fact, I just don't and wouldn't drink that stuff at any price. I'd honestly rather have a pint of tap water.

The price of soft drinks in pubs is crazy though. Having got 2 young kids I know that only too well. When the soft drinks are costing you almost as much as a glass of wine or a pint of beer it's beyond a joke. And even more so when they are those diluted soft drinks that they serve on tap, which are watered down versions of Coke, or Fanta or Pepsi or whatever.

I'm off for a pint right now in fact. I'm torn between driving 7 miles for a really nice pint of beer at £2 a pint - or 4 miles for an equally nice pint of beer at £3.20 a pint. I'm going to choose the £3.20 pub this time - because that's where most of my friends will be.

I suspect that whilever I've got a bit of money on the hip I'll not be letting the price of drinks stop me from going to the pub. But I might drink less whilst I'm there.
