Is Nigel Farage a political rock god ?

Who or what is Tim Condom? Is the CBE an award or an organisation?

"University of Oxford ... considerable working experience in the City of London ... Long a self-proclaimed Eurosceptic, Congdon stood as UK Independence Party candidate for the Forest of Dean constituency in the 2010 General Election, obtaining 5.2% of the votes cast and saving his deposit."

It's also worth following the wiki link to "The Freedom Association".

To think that some posters here are taken in by UKIP's anti-establishment "stance"

A one trick pony - the rest of it, as Stoatwobbler so eloquently puts it, is Mail on Steroids.

He's consistently put the case for a more prosperous Britain and a more properous Europe without the beaurocratic and anti-democratic institutions of the EU long before his predictions turned out to be quite on the money. I think recent moves to suggest UKIP could be a party of governance are unwise as they are of value precisely because they are a "one trick pony" in a political landscape of mainstream politics which has been desperate to avoid offering choice to the people of Europe on the issue. Despite that, I think we are far more likely to get a say on these vital issues as a result of his actions so I'm glad he's put in thew efforts he has to hold the EU Commission to account and campaign for real democracy in Europe.

A classic, and true.

Angel.

Like I said : mouthy rabble-rousing. Of course he hadn't heard of Herman van Rompuy, a man who couldn't be any further removed from the public school old-boy network that spawned this right-wing splinter group.

As for Belgium being a non-country : a bit rich coming from "UKIP". At a time when the Scots are openly talking about leaving, Northern Ireland has peacefully reached the point of power-sharing, and the Welsh too have very little love left for Westminster Tories in various guises acting as if they own the place, you know that your Em-pah isn't all it was once cracked up to be.

Maybe one day, dear Angel, you will wake up and smell the bacon too, rather than sing the praises of Punch & Judy politicians whose idea of a working social and political order is turning the clock back by 150 years.

Indeed, if ever there was a man keen on the sound of his own voice it's this Tory twit.

So the basis of this post is greater political freedom from London for Scotland, Wales and NI, decentralisation/devolution of powers etc is progress, but to apply exactly the same arguments and principles to our relationshipwith the EU is "rabble rousing".
