puisseguin
Is that a 5 year projection! I realise that there are those who pray that the economy won't pull out of the mess Brown created. They feel it's far better that working men loose their jobs than the country prosper under the wrong leadership.

jimmy62alan
The unemployment figures have not came down the people have just got differant titles, such as students and trainees on the many courses the government put out to take people off the dole and get them listed as off the unemployment listing. All these people still get benefits just in a so call differant form, don't be fooled there is still thousands unemployed but just with another title lol ALAN

A student is a student and not recorded as being employed, and as student numbers are down over last year it is difficult to understand your point. Cyclone
How much have student numbers increased by? It must be measurable if people have moved from being unemployed to being students.
L00b
Which country, UK or 'France'?Both. Both suffer substantially the same issues, arisen out of substantially the same policies. France never really got back up from 14 years of socialist policies under Mitterand (and that was some 20 years ago). His centre-right successor Chirac did not have the nerve (nor the political capital, truth be told) to do what Cameron/Osbourne are doing now (and which was already required then), so just maintained the status quo (in terms of managing the public debt) for another 12 years. Sarkozy did try to get hold of the accumulated problems, but look what happened (entirely unsurprisingly, for shame). Now they're back to the left with Hollande, and look what's happening (again, entirely unsurprisingly, for shame). They're all but FUBAR. Too much inertia at the national scale now, from too many vested interests across the entire socio-economic spectrum, to do what's needed for getting the country back on track. We've got a slim chance, mostly because unlike France we're not mired in the €zone so don't have to suffer the ebbs and whims of international markets to the same extent.
