truman
Not always, a low paid job done here by an immigrant means extra housing is required, possibly extra services to educate their children, extra NHS provision, on a low wage they would qualify for benefits so would be a negative tax contributor. If the vacancy can't be filled by a British worker the job would be better lost to a country that had unemployed people ready to work. If it was a high paid job making them a net tax contributor then the job would be better filled here. But the company they work for will be paying tax over here..maybe renting/ buying property etc etc..

Unless they are Starbucks who apparently don’t pay much tax, but still compete and take trade from taxpaying companies.

But they still rent/lease property which would probably be empty otherwise..I assume they pay VAT I also assume they use power and light, pay NI and income tax etc etc...would you prefer all UK companies who trade abroad to pay all their tax in those countries..? Obelix
I know its old fashioned but when did folk stop worrying about our balance of payments? When the schooling system was dumbed down to the point that most people don't know what the balance of payments is, much less why we care about it. gnvqsos
Some people only want p/t jobs... Undoubtedly, but there should be some care exercised when examining such data.It is a question of comparing like with like, and you cannot survive on part-time earnings.
