Silver Blades Ice rink

Recommended Posts

I remember Pete Briggs by name. I also knew Harry Stocks. We used to hang out at the Heartbeat. He seemed to have a new ritzy girlfriend every other week. :-) Would have been 69/70 or so.

Also had a part-time job at the Mecca Bowling Alley. They closed it and moved most of the staff to London. Thought most of the people there were pretty nice, the bowling alley alley manager used to lend me his car sometimes.

Pete Briggs use to go out with Corrine Sunter . The last time I was in touch with him he was living in Edinburgh.

It was a friends 18th Birthday(Brian) and one saturday night we took it in turns to by him a drink in the engine bar. We left him that saturday night in the middle of the ice late on.. It was reported that he was seen about 4am crawling on his hands and knees up East bank road.

Also loved the inter ice rink meetings where they did Barrell jumping,Ice Dance, Speed Skating and Ice handball (because we were not allowed to start an ice hockey team. Played once when we went to Streatham got soaked because it was just a pool of water.

Hi, I can’t believe I’m sat here thinking about my beautiful mom ‘Coreen Sunter’ maiden name, entered her name and omg I think she’s mentioned??

I’ve never ever used any social media etc and used my husbands account to reply.  I’ve no idea what I’m doing but here goes!

Sadly my mom died from lung cancer in 1997 aged only 51.  My mom was bubbly, vivacious and had a wicked laugh!  You never think about your mom having a life before she married in 1964 and had me in 1968!   We lived in Swallownest/Aughton until she died.  I’m laughing to myself thinking, strangely enough she never mentioned the Skates to me (Ooo I wonder why) other than not really wanting me to go when I was at school in the early 80’s - lol loved it !

I can only ever imagine there was only one Coreen Sunter in Sheffield (I noticed the post re Corrine Sumter, Glasgow! What a coincidence) and yes she was mentioned in my grandads passing ‘Fred Sunter’ but sadly she had died years before.

If anyone has had any info about my moms younger years I would love to hear about them.

After all all these years, I can’t believe I’ve seen her name in black and white.  Miss her more than words can say, we were so close, love you mom xxx Sarah xxxx

Yes it was and the enterance to casino was in the car park

What else was in that complex other than the Heartbeat (later Samanthas), the casino, a skating rink, a bowling alley and the Alhambra ? Some may have replaced others I assume.

So sorry to hear that Corine Sunter died & so very young. We went to the same school (Newfield Girl's) We were not in the same class nor were we friends as such but I did know Corine. Popular girl rather quiet (maybe just compared to some of us haha). Had a nice singing voice, she tok the lead part of Josephine in HMS Pinafore at school. Can't tell you much more about her though.

Hard to believe with a name like Coreen Sunter but I don’t think I am talking about the same Coreen ?

If so there’s  a lot my mom never talked about, girls school, silver blades, living on East Bank Road ?

Before marrying in 1964 she lived at  Foxhill and never said she went to a girls school !   And I’d hate for anyone to see Corine Sunter and think they’re seeing a ghost !

It was nice for a minute though, thinking I’d stumbled across some memories of her !
