Turning Fresh Air and Water into Petrol. I knew it was possible!

Recommended Posts

Nope from the article (which I'm sure you'e read)

"The company hopes that within two years it will build a larger, commercial-scale plant capable of producing a ton of petrol a day."

A ton of petrol relates to about 1400 litres..

From their website.

Air Fuel Synthesis plan to produce 1,000 tonnes of liquid hydrocarbon fuel per day using approx 3,000 MW of renewable electricity.

From their website.

Also from their website

"They learned that thanks to its successful demonstrator programme, AFS is now ready to build a commercial plant producing at levels of 1-tonne a day producing specialist fuels initially for example in top-end motorsport applications.

Independent engineering analysis conducted for AFS shows that a 1-tonne a day production plant taking carbon from a point source such as a brewery, distillery or aerobic digestor (which can be built within 18-24 months of funding) can be competitive with equivalent specialist fossil fuels and commercially viable. "

The 3 gigawatt you mention is an awful lot of power..using this

http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/Data/Realtime/Demand/Demand60.htm

I see the UK as a whole is using about 42 gigawatt so this plant would be using 7% of the electricity of the whole country..

We will achieve this by:

Stage 1. Developing initial commercial projects of 1 – 10 tonnes of renewable fuel per day

Yes it looks a reasonable idea and will hopefully work on a commercial scale.

To be honest we also have to look at why these "less efficient" methods may be needed. What's happening today - http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/10/22/bp-near-deal-to-sell-assets-to-rosneft/

Does any SF poster trust the kleptocratic russian regime? If not then why allow our energy companies to on this very day prostitute themselves to it?

We need energy independence. How we achieve it is not easy, but that fact should not stand in the way of seeking it.

Look Pete..the first law is a very basic law..if it was wrong then we'd see evidence of it..please tell me you understand that at least...

Of course I do truman.

Closed minds because of basic laws I can't accept though. Those who keep quoting the inescapable first and second laws of thermodynamics, and can't accept that there 'could' be something other than their understanding are stuck in some sort of dogma.

All I'm suggesting is being open minded. I really don't know why people are exploring the possibilites of alternative sources of power, even if it's not (at the moment) financially viable would even bother...

Why bother? Eh? It makes no sense! I undertstand that there are some highly qualified people on here. But there are others equally and or probably more qualified researching it.

Is it just to suck in plebs, and to waste everyones time and money?...I think probably not.

If the first law isn't a fact then why do we not see examples of it being broken everyday... ? Genuine question...
