I remember Kaysers being there and I also remember the pub but I cannot recall its name.It was at the bottom of Gower street and Carlisle street corner. On the opposite corner at the bottom of Sutherland road was another pub and that was on the opposite corner to Kaysers.

When I was kid in that area it was Kayser-Ellison, at the corner of Carlisle Street East and Sutherland Street. The pub directly opposite was the 'Carlisle Hotel' (Stones'). I believe the original gateway to 'Kayser's' is still there, facing the Gower Street roundabout.

There used to be an old road that run up from just past of the Alex heading away from town, known locally as Crown Hill it was named after another pub that was on it.

Yes the 'Crown' pub was on Carlisle Road (hence Crown Hill), it was between Scott Street (the little lane by the side of the 'Alex') and Sharp Street. The Grimesthorpe end of Newhall Road was opposite the 'Alex'.
