Another tory bites the dust!

It amazes me that ministers can preside over deaths of many disabled people due to their policies, or as a consequence of their decisions armed personnel die in legally questionable wars and not resign.

I'm not defending Andrew Mitchell over the fact that he allegedly swore at the policeman, but it just doesn't make that much sense in the grander scheme of things....

Quite right. Close libraries and hospitals, impoverish people, slash spending on school sports...all fine. Swear at a policeman and you're gone.

It's not as if you can trust a policeman to recall what was said anyway, especially when they have trouble telling the difference between a maniac with a samurai sword and a blind pensioner with a white stick.

If this was an episode of The Thick of It people would say it was unrealistic.

That's a shame, it looks like our police now dictate who should be in government. I hope on principle they now sack every single police officer who is ever rude to any member of the public. Doubt there would be much left of the police.

The issue was not one of rudeness but the fallacious comments by Mr Mitchell after the event.

It is a pity he was not sacked by Cameron earlier .

This event sums up what the ruling classes attitude is to the people.

Most members of the House seem to have a similar attitude.

It is now coming to light about MPs renting out property then claiming rent paid out by themselves on London properties.

Quite true. I just started a new thread on this very subject. :)

Those people criticising the coppers involved ignore the fact that Mitchell could have been arrested in Downing Street which would have been a lot more embarrassing. Unless you think that calling someone a pleb is acceptable then arrogant snobs like Mitchell have to go. It doesn't look good on Cameron either, for standing by Mitchell for weeks and then losing the fight to keep him. Old school tie and all that.

The police haven't decided this. Mitchell has.

For all we know, he may not have lied. His word against theirs, but regardless, he apologised, the copper accepted...should have been the end of the matter until the left wing latched onto it to force a minister out for something so petty and to deliberately undermine the government, nothing to do with an overwhelming respect they have for the police.

Why did he resign, if the matter was so petty?:suspect:

Right, if you did what Mitchell did and it was witnessed and recorded by several police officers, it would not be your word against their word. The police would be firmly in the driving seat about what happened next. It should be no different for anyone else. His mistake was not to admit to at least swearing - he actually denied that for weeks. Now he's changed his story. The police haven't changed their recorded account. The police account was closest to what Mitchell admitted today. And he's still calling the police liars.
