Energy exploitation

1 unit or for some with meters reading in metres cubed (m3)costs 47.65 pence.

This is almost twice the cost of buying the gas from Russian GASPROM. One then adds vat and everyone but the home consumer is doing very nicely. TREBBLES ALL ROUND!

I'm not saying that greed doesn't play a part but why is the price of Russian gas even worth quoting? Because North Sea gas production is in decline and we're having to buy gas on the international market to make up the shortfall.

Hopefully there will be loads of cheap shale gas in the UK soon, as in the USA.

The price of gas in the USA has dropped dramatically since they started exploiting their shale gas reserves and the same will happen here.

Don't be surpised if the prices don't fall though. The utility cartels will have every excuse in the book as to why the prices should stay at their level at the time.

If you have any information about cartels operating in the UK then you should pass it on to the authorities.

Look how they've been queueing up in the USA to drop prices and get more customers since the price at the wellhead dropped because of shale gas being so easy to produce.

It will be a little more expensive to produce here because it will be properly regulated, unlike in the USA where lack of regulation has led to pollution problems, but it will still be way cheaper than off shore or imported gas.

They're talking of drilling 5000 wells in Lancashire alone :)

They may not be official 'cartels', but look how they have been queueing up to announce increases over the last few days.

Any kind of collusion to fix prices is illegal, if you have any evidence of it then you should report it. Otherwise you're just talking rubbish.

Prices rising at the same time is not necessarily because there's anything illegal going on, it could be that they all have the same costs & the same competitive pressures. It could be perfect competition.
