21.10.12 - Sheffield Forum 4-5 Manor Social

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum threw away a 2 goal lead for the second time in a row, this time against Manor Social. Forum changed formation at the start of this game and welcomed back Ryan Lynch who slotted straight into the back line as did Nathan Jenkins. Jason Bowden was this time unavailable as was Joe Neate. Andy Coates also had to pull out this morning after not recovering from his injury in time.

It was a bright start for Forum on a bright but chilly morning on Herdings Park with Forum set to attack from the outset and simply out-score Manor Social. Some great link up play went unrewarded very early in the game but they took full advantage on 7 minutes. Ryan Savage got in a cross from midway in Manors half which was met by Shane Middlebrook. He nodded it down towards goal where Liam Wales was waiting and he redirected the ball into the corner of the goal, taking it away from the keeper to give Forum the lead.

It was a repeat of the game against Holly Bush with a bright start and this time Forum wanted to see it out and they kept attacking but failed to take any more chances. Manor were playing long ball towards the right wing or their pacey centre forward and 10 minutes later Manor equalised. It was a ball over the top which was chased down by Ryan Lynch and keeper Adam Smith came out to collect but neither committed to it allowing the forward into knock it past into the open goal.

Not long after, Forum were behind. Manor lined up a free kick just outside the area and as keeper Smith had asked for a few second to finish seeing to his gloves, the referee blew his whistle for Manor to take the free kick. They put this away in the opposite corner to where the wall was covering and Smith was stood fastening up his gloves leaving players unhappy at the decision to allow the goal.

Forum stepped it up a little and scored 3 goals in the last 5 minutes of the first half. Firstly, Daniel Sheedy floated across the perfect corner which was met well by Middlebrook to nod home his first of the game and pull Sheffield Forum level.

The lead was regained by Forum 2 minutes later. Daniel Sheedy found himself just outside the area, went past one defender and curled a wonderful low shot into the keepers bottom left corner.

On the stroke of half time Forum again found the back of the net. Daniel Sheedy floated in a free kick from midway in Manors half that found Middlebrook who had broken free of his marker to direct the ball past the keeper.

Forum now 4-2 up and looking comfortable.

HT: Sheffield Forum 4-2 Manor Social

Manor Social got off to the best start they could have asked for in the 2nd half as they pulled one back within a minute. Suddenly Forum had stepped back and started playing deeper.

Players struggled to get forward as they looked to hold on to the lead, maybe a little nerves came into the game after what had happened the game before as well as the late loss to Wyvern.

Forum held tight, kept Manor out with some top challenges but didn’t create enough to threaten Manors goal.

With 10 minutes remaining Manor equalised. The ball fell loose inside the area and with Manor forward rushing on to smash the ball home, Nathan Jenkins stretched a leg for the ball but caught the player first. Penalty awarded and scored. Forum had been pegged back and now a draw a likely outcome.

It wasn’t to be. Manor snatched victory with 5 minutes left and Forum couldn’t find a way back. They piled pressure on and even sent keeper Smith up for 3 last minute corners but nothing came of this and the full time whistle blew.

A highly frustrating game and a run that needs to end next week so we can head into November with a win under our belt and this rotten 2nd half luck out of the way. Plenty of thought for the manager over the next 6 days with new players lurking, waiting to sign up.

Overall, it was an improved performance on Holly Bush but failure to kill off a game and keep a lead is disappointing to say the least. On a positive note, it was good to see Wales get off the mark this season and Sheedy and Middlebrook continue their scoring form.

Next Sunday is a different day, week and game. Let’s hope it’s a different result against Rose House on Bolehills.
