wednesday1
Ford motor company has anounced the closure of it's Transit making plant in Southampton and an end to stamping operations at Dagenham, dealing a body blow to the UK's manufacturing base. http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/news/business-20083272 The government has stated that the economy needs to be rebalanced in favour of proper industries which employ people in well-paid jobs and actually create wealth, what is the government doing to get Ford to reverse this decision, or will it do nothing like it did when London Underground announced they were going to buy new trains from Germany rather than the Bombardier works in Derby. SUPERDREAM
The parts made in the dagenham plant are to be made in Russia, because it will be cheaper for Fords. Cant blame em, really.

Ford stopped making cars in the UK in 2002. They manufacture now in many low wage countries such as Turkey, Rumania, Slovakia etc. As 85% of all cars sold in the UK are made overseas there is a very easy answer for anyone who wants to moan about the closure of a UK motor plant. Buy a British built vehicle. So your question shouldn't be what are the government doing unless you want them to force you to buy a British built car. Its not easy to identify whether or not a car is built in the UK,especially as most are assembled from parts made overseas.

I'm sure they'll feel better for knowing that.
