InigoMontoya
That was his father, that Richard, Duke of York, who as you say died at the Battle of Wakefield, following which his head was mounted on a spike at Micklegate Bar. Despite this, his son often said York was his favourite city. By the way, I believe the mnemonic for remembering the colours of the rainbow is Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain (not gained). "…got bottled in vinegar", surely?
MrsMozzy
"…got bottled in vinegar", surely? The Duke of Clarence (Richard III's brother) was drowned in a butt of Malmsey if that's any help?

Twiglet
Should any public money be spent on a burial (never mind where) when we don't yet know this is Richard III? As yet the DNA 'match' has not been peer reviewed and no specific methodology released. It might well be him, but until the science has been properly scrutinised, planning the burial is a little premature.

Nagel
I find it very undignified that various factions of the heritage industry are fighting over his remains. Leicester and York only want the bones so that they can boost their heritage industries and bring in that tourist revenue. You can bet that they have plans for Richard III visitor centres with full audiovisual displays and capacity for an interpretative educational experience (school visits). Is this really the England that Richard III was fighting for and lost his life for at Bosworth?
janie48
I'd have thought given his condition that the funeral is a bit late... I'd forgotten all about it until today, then I remembered this thread. I think the event is worth a mention considering the coverage its getting this week.
