chem1st
https://www.facebook.com/events/535905649768504/ Location; St Mary's Church, Putney, SW15 1SN. Time: 1830-2100, today. Can we have a true democracy without a fair sharing of land? From the time of the Levellers, to the recent Occupy protests, this question has been at the heart of radical democratic thought and action. We will be discussing how a "modern enclosures movement" has led to the creeping confiscation of public land by private corporations in recent years, the consequences for people, animals and the planet, and what we can do about it. Come and discuss these issues with GEORGE MONBIOT, writer and campaigner, NATALIE BENNETT, Leader of the Green Party, MAX LAWSON, Head of Advocacy for Oxfam UK, and the 2012 Diggers from the Runnymede Ecovillage, at the historic site of the original Putney Debates in 1647. http://thenewputneydebates.wordpress.com/ Celebrating the 365th year anniversary of the original Putney Debates, Occupy London is holding a series of events inspired by the Levellers’ and Diggers’ demands for social justice, civil rights and equal access to the land. Here is an interesting radio programme about the original Putney debates; http://vimeo.com/51052178
geared
I couldn't think of anything less I'd rather do, than attend any kind of event setup by those 'occupy' morons.
Jeffrey Shaw
And it's in London. If Putney were in Sheffield, it might have been worthwhile.
tinfoilhat
Just to clarify, there is going to be a discussion about sharing land in place owned by one of the biggest land owners in the country (120k rural acres, 10% of land associated with the metro centre and an investment portfolio worth £8bn) Priceless. S10mainly
Will it achieve anything at all? [A: No.] It will make some misguided souls feel better when they meet others with similar thought processes
Jeffrey Shaw
They could find levellers a bit flat. Like Norfolk.
