Recommended Posts

I purchased a cooker from comet on 30th October £369 which included fitting I rang up when they went into admin and was told I was not getting my cooker and to write in for a refund this I did once to comet and no reply second time to the administrators had a letter back today saying Ime not getting my money back and to ring customer care for further advice this I did and all I got back is sorry they can't help me surely this is not legal any ideas or do I have to spend more money on solicitors:(

How did you pay for it?

paid cash for it

this is one occasion where you should have paid on a credit card and you would have got your money back as you could have made a claim against the credit card company, paying by cash im afraid you will have to put it down to experience as you wont be getting your money back im afraid

How did you pay them?

If you paid via Credit card you can claim back via your back via Section 75 CCA. If was via Debit card you can still contact your back and ask for a "Chargeback". However it doesnt carry the legal weight of credit card purchase.

However if you paid via cash then you got little legal rights. As you will be classed as "unsecured creditor" and will be placed at the end of the queue for a refund. - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/company-administration-help

Credit Card Refunds (Section 75) - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases

Just realised someone else beat me to it. There no harm in writing to the administrator and asking for a refund. But don't get your hopes up. As its likely you not the only one in this situation.

A similar issue happened to me but lucky for me I paid via credit card so was able to claim a refund from the bank.

paid cash for it

FAIL

Paying cash for something which hasn't been delivered into your possession immediately is like flushing pound notes down the lavatory.

WHY did you do this ?

Must admit last year me and the missus bought a fridge from comet, paid for it, and had it delivered a few days later. Its pretty normal to do this, just a bit daft if you do it when the company has been on the news for the last few weeks and the subject of Administration was also in the headline.
