Israeli government ganja advertisement in the BBC

Under armed guard, at a secret location in the hills of northern Israel, rows of cannabis plants in a large greenhouse give off a sweet, distinctive smell.

In a nearby processing room, bags of dried buds and leaves are weighed and bagged. A woman in a lab coat operates a device producing dozens of ready-made cigarettes.

Cannabis is an illegal drug in Israel but this facility is allowed to operate under a government licence.

Ganja is grown in the holy land upon occupied lands legally under the authority of the IDF.

The company that runs it, Tikun Olam, uses organic methods to grow different kinds of cannabis for medical use.

Now, it has developed a new strain that could change the image of the drug.

By altering the nutrient mix fed to the plants they have managed to manipulate THC and CBD content to produce some proper mellow yellow!

(Mellow yellow is high in CBD - the new Israeli strain is high in CBD)

The new strain is beneficial to 3 different groups of people (basically everyone);

"The new strains are really good for three populations - people who work, old people - because they are sensitive to THC - and also children, as we want to touch those receptors in their brains as little as possible," he says.

Legend has it that non working people like it too, in addition to the elderly, the young and the middle aged that work.

just see how they can never resist, putting a bit of an anti-Israel propaganda spin, on the Israel topics.

there are only two disputed areas of northern Israel, the tiny Shebaa farms area which is still officially - and laughably - claimed by Lebanon, and the Golan Heights, from Syria.

the article doesn't specifically say where in northern Israel this cannabis plantation is, but it's a safe bet to assume that it almost certainly isn't in any disputed or 'occupied' lands, i.e. about 80% of northern Israel - unless you concur with the Islamist position, and think the entire state of Israel is 'occupied lands' rather than being the bona fide sovereign nation state and full UN member that it is.

writing that the plantation is 'under the authority of the IDF' also implies that Israel is some sort of military dictatorship, when it is nothing of the sort at all, but a civil, liberal, secular democracy. The IDF is also not mentioned in the article. The 'armed guard' reference, is likely to be a private security company whose job it is to safeguard the valuable crop from thieves - not the Israeli army.

they just can't help themselves, always putting on this nonsensical anti-Israel spin, whenever any topic concerning Israel comes up, even one like this, that has nothing to do with the security or political situation. I regard it as being something close to a mental illness.

If Israel had given the Palestinians their land back and accepted a state of Palestine there wouldnt be any anti-Israeli feeling.

lol, why so many weed posts?

You're probably right, the herb should be legal in the UK, but you clearly have no problem getting your hands on it so does it really matter all that much whether it's legal or not?

Especially as I assume you only smoke it at home and you're at no real risk from the law.

If Israel had given the Palestinians their land back

huh? Whose land back? Why do you make these silly assumptions that what are today's Palestinian Arabs had any land worth mentioning in the first place, when 90% of it belonged to the Turkish occupiers prior to 1918 ? Since when was there any country called Palestine?

If the Europeans hadn't been so fond of pogroms and denying Jews their right to full equality then there might not have been the desire for a Jewish homeland in the first place

You cant blame the whole of Europe because of hitler.

Yes what hitler did was appaling. What Israel is doing to the palistinians is also appaling. Israel should have a country so should palestine.

Israel does have a country. - It's called 'Israel'

Palestine also has a country - called 'Palestine'.

When the Israelis built a big fence to keep the Palestinians out of Israel (And in their country called 'Palestine') there was hell to pay.

Perhaps the Israelis should stay in Israel (no further colonisation) and the Palestinians should stay in Palestine (no going into Israel for work.)

Freeze the borders as they are now. (Don't give me any crap about '1967' - The Israelis were attacked and they won the land. They didn't start it.)

Would that work?
