Walkley Dave
Would anyone who knows about these things tell me when is a good time to buy a used car. Looking to spend £10,000 - £15,000 on something with around 5/10,000 on the clock. For example is it a good time to buy just after the new registrations come out? Happy to trawl through websites. mart
I am assuming you mean buying from the trade. I found it is rare -almost impossible to find private sales with that mileage/age. The owners tend to part ex them.
Walkley Dave
Sorry yes - happy to go to a main dealer. I freely confess I am looking for something that has had the first flush of inflation taken off.

geared
How big a car are you looking to get in that budget? You can look at new cars around the time of registration change as well. I picked up a Peugeot 107 new for less than a used model because it was the time of the plate change and the trim level was being discontinued. So there are some bargains around there if you look around.

Have you tried places like this http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/ I've no idea what they are like but seem to have a lot of nearly new cars in the bracket you're looking at.. GrannyGranny
You've not given us much to go on A few questions.. 1. What sort of mileage do you do. 2. Mainly town/motorway/commuting/mixed? 3. What size car? Is space important? 4. Economy/cheap tax? 5. Badge. Does it matter? I've been told the best deals are towards the end of the month and the biggest discounts are buying with finance. Its a myth that going in like Mike Brewer cash in hand will get you big discounts. Dealers make a good comminsion from selling finance packages ditto paint protection and service deals. For £15k you could pick up more or less any mid range car under a year old with less that 5k miles. I know you didn't ask for specific cars but I love choosing cars for other people. Walkley Dave
Mileage around 6,000 partly commuting, some longer (Edinburgh) journeys Space - four door because we need to get a small grandchild in the back. Economy is not especially important. Badge - looking for a Toyota/Honda Will go out later this week and thanks to those last paragraphs - sort of thing I was looking for. Walkley Dave
Thanks and that is exactly the sort of thing I am looking for! well done. However I suspect it may just be a bit too "racy" for my senior manager :-)
