These are the best without doubt plus they have one of the Gracie Brothers with them.

I went to the Mansfield Road centre and i was sorely disappointed. They want you to pay £600 for a 6 month course in which they tell you you will be earning a "black belt in MMA...". When i asked which style i would be attaining a black belt in he simply told me "in the style of MMA..." :huh:

I've heard that Brian Aiken is the man to see when it comes to BJJ

He's my old judo coah. but his company is a bit keen on the pressure sales, and long term membership at daft prices. Thats not in the spirit of martial arts. I understand the man has to make a living from what he's dedicated his life to, but if you check out other threads on here, its a bit excessive.

I would recomend this club, its the EJJ North. The instruction is carried out in a very easy going manner and the club has a nice atmosphere.

On fridays (when I went), they trained between 7pm and 10pm, and for £5 thats pretty unbeatable. They train at KOmbat Sports, 110 Duchess Road. Sheffield S2 4BL.

If you facebook Andrew Bottom, you will find the instructor details

They do not "have one of the Gracie Brothers with them" :) no Gracie brother would risk association with a club like this, which is well known for it's dubious business practices, as discussed on many threads on this board-

Try this place;

http://www.kapapsheffield.co.uk/

Website is a bit old fashioned I admit but the classes are brilliant. I go every week, they do Kenpo (self defence techniques) and BJJ classes.

Kenpo is Wednesday and Saturday. BJJ is Friday, Sat and Sunday.

They also do kickboxing/fitness classes but im not too sure of the times of these.

It's £5 for one hour or £8 for two.

The Bjj class in particular is excellent, as the groups is quite small and everyone is patient. Which helps if you are struggling (like me) people will help you out no end.

The instructor is called simon golland, google him to find his credentials etc.

Hope this helps!
