S10mainly
The problem with the "tax the rich" mentality is that there simply isnt enough of them to raise a lot of money. If you took every single penny off every millionaire in the country it would just about cover Government expenditure for one year. The truly rich (ie over £20M net worth) could pay for another few years; but they are the ones who would just leave the country for a more appealing tax regime
GrapeApe
Everybody has the ability and opportunity to better themselves if they want to. Equality involves motivation and hard work !! It doesn't just fall into the laps of the feckless and lazy and nor should it. Yet those are the very people first to spout out about inequality. Sadly it just jealously or envy !! ...and the Devonshires acquired their wealth by hard graft I suppose...

Anna Glypta
They bought Chatsworth manor in 1549, Sir William Cavendish hivng worked for Henry VIII on the Disoution of the Monastries. And the drawing in question was bought 300 years ago by the family and has been on loan to the Vatican for years. It seems to be a problem to some people that some folks sell family heir looms that turn out to have become worth more than they originally cost. Perhaps we should picket The Antiques Roadshow and confiscate anything that has appreciated in value.

That some one can pay millions for a scrap of paper when millions throughout this World do not even have running water is a disgrace. Taking that further the fact that certain people in this Country i.e. The Cavendish's and their ilk who due to their links with Royalty in the middle ages should still live these privileged lives is beyond human comprehension. As a side line to this in todays Star newspaper [page 28] a letter writer warns us that these benevolent aristocrats are charging £10 just to park on their? vast estate. So what are you proposing, that rare art not be valuable? That it not be legal to sell it? What exactly?

neepsendlane
So what are you proposing, that rare art not be valuable? That it not be legal to sell it? What exactly? I am simply trying to point out that it is simply immoral that some people on OUR planet can own and pay millions for scraps of paper when at least 75% of humanity are living in relative poverty. As for rare art being valuable have you really looked at the Mona Lisa, what a miserable bitch she is I would Rather have A Pete McKee print of four blokes playing cards in Fagin's.
