neepsendlane
Im surprised that the bitter left care about such meaningless baubles What fascinates me are the never ending row of medals on Prince Charles chest. He has got more than Gaddafi ever had and makes some of those tin pot dictators in Africa look positively bare.

Tony
An OBE for Gary Barlow.....worra joke. Lead a third rate band [write a decent song or two] and make a spectacle of yourself on X Factor and you get an OBE. I cant get my breath. What next? OBE's for the other celebrity rubbish. Its an insult to worthwhile contributors to society....... What worthwhile contribution to society did you get your gong for?
Tradescanthia
What worthwhile contribution to society did you get your gong for? I dont do anything to warrant a 'gong'. They should only be handed out to deserving people. Now stop trying to be clever, we were discussing the likes of Gary Barlow not me.I doubt you will ever get one either. Certainly not for your forum attempts.
Anna B
It's about time Ken Dodd got a knighthood. (They surely can't complain about the tax 'mix-up' now that so many others have been found wanting.) The man is a legend, and the last of his kind. He's given a lot of pleasure to millions of people for so many years and is greatly admired in the industry as well as by the public. They rarely seem to knight comedians, yet actors and sports people get honoured all the time.

It's perhaps because comedy is more a subjective genre, and hence is more difficult to 'rate' than for sports people/ actors [though slightly less so, for actors]. e.g. If a sportsperson runs faster than everyone else, then it's hard to argue that they aren't the best at running. Acting is less convincing than as sports, but still, if someone takes lots of roles that contribute to lots of success for films/plays/tv then again same as previous. There aren't really any runaway leaders in comedy. If you could name one, I could easily find plenty of negativity about them. In your example, many people might be disgusted in Ken Dodd being KH'd. I'm not actually sure of what constitutes for being considered for knighthoods, so I could be talking rubbish, I'm just guessing based on common sense. I don't really care come to think of it. But I do like Ken Dodd.

regatta
There are three comedians called Cameron, Clegg and Osborne who really need to get knotted, not Knighted.
