Happ Hazzard
from 1985, showing the lives of the jet-set who smoke their brand of cigarettes. Amazing to see ads like this were still allowed in the mid 80s.
Mecky
I can't speak for everyone but I'm not influenced by advertisements
Rand Hobart
Advertising is a massive multi billion pound industry and not one penny of it would be spent if it didn't effect the decisions people make. Mecky, I like to think that I'm not influenced by them too but to give you an example of how it works, I cant remember my own mobile number, yet I can remember the phone number of Maincrest Car and Van Hire, from a jingle on the radio that I last heard in the 1970's. "Maincrest car and van hire 733 3201"
poppet2
Looks like a holiday ad to me. Three times they showed the cigs. Even Alan Sugar tells his apprentices to show the brand more when they're told to make an ad for a product.

maxmaximus
I usually have a problem figuring out what is being advertised so I doubt it would affect me; I’m also tight and averse to paying tax so they wouldn’t have any appeal. But to answer your question, yes I have no doubt that more people would be encouraged to smoke.
Ms Macbeth
When the ad was originally shown, we were not as aware of the dangers of smoking as we are nowadays. IMO people who ignore the risks would still smoke, but I doubt the ad would encourage the rest of us.
Happ Hazzard
We weren't aware of the dangers of smoking in 1985?
maxmaximus
We weren't aware of the dangers of smoking in 1985? I think Ms Macbeth must have been in denial at the time. In 1972 one of my teachers demonstrated how much crap goes into your lungs when smoking, I remember it was very graphic lesson with pictures of diseased lungs. And cigarette packets didn't carry 'SMOKING CAN KILL' on them. I'm an ex smoker, and I did know by the 80s it wasn't good for me, but I carried on for a while so I probably was in denial. When I was at school 50s/60s some teachers smoked in the staffroom!
