Bratby
Did anyone attend Abbeydale Infants,Juniors or the Secondary school on Glen Rd ? I attended all three from the early to late sixties before the Secondary school closed and we all got shipped to King Ecgberts in Dore. I'm looking to members of our 'fabulous' Secondary school football team who carried on regardless - week in,week out, in all weathers - who trudged to all parts of Sheffield using bus tokens supplied by the school - just to get thrashed senseless most Saturday mornings. We had some great footballers, but we never seemed to win - ever. I'm particularly looking for Tony Wood. We went to the Sheffield Boy trials together up Granville Rd and got selected for the final few - but we went to our house at lunchtime on the second day and stayed there playing card all afternoon. Needless to say it put an end to our football 'careers' Most Abbeydale Sec footballers also played for the Heeley Red Lion football team on Sundays. We had a makeshift pitch at the top of Millhouses Park. Four poles and two pieces of rope for goalposts. Seem to remember, that team was a bit more successful. We won the occasional match.
