In the past week we have had the wanting to load motorists insurance for taking a Speed Awareness Course, increase women's premiums due to spurious gender discrimination legislation and now they want to load mountain dwellers insurance using flooding as a excuse. Resident Posted November 27, 2012 Share Posted November 27, 2012 It was very silly and naive of anyone to think that the ruling by the european courts that insurance companies could no longer charge different based on gender would mean that they would lower male premiums. Car insurance companies have the UK driver by the preverbial nutsack. It's legally required but left in the hands of private companies who seemingly have no real regulator to stop them from being extortionate with their pricing. Personally I believe that since it's legally required it should be under state control, any 'overspill' cash goes into the coffers. Make it so it includes your VED. On the flip side I have really cheap car insurance because I haven't made a claim or done any speeding or driven through flooded areas or took stupid risks in the snow when the media say "stay at home, roads are treacherous".
