Guest sibon
Plenty of countries above us in ranking. That doesn't mean that we need help. You did see how big our GDP is, didn't you? We are easily rich enough to deal with a few days of heavy rain.

mikem8634
Plenty of countries above us in ranking. Do you think other countries should send financial aid to assist with our current flooding problem? If so, then which countries and why?
Guest sibon
Deal with a FEW days of heavy rain ? Rich enough to deal with a few days of heavy rain. It was the rain that caused the floods you know. And we're rich enough to help the people who are affected.

tinfoilhat
Arent we ? Thats debatable. Not really. When the Asian tsunami hit, countries were destroyed, in particular infrastructure. When st Asaph was flooded, there was enough infrastructure in that small communities to get a support centre set up, fire and rescue was available in numbers. People who were flooded out had the option in many cases to stay with family or friends, until the insurance kicks in. The last part is key. In Sumatra there was nothing until the aid agencies turned up. No support centre, no fire and rescue, no friends or family as they were washed away. Can you insure a shack ? Unlikely. People were left with nothing. Vast swathes of a country was left with nothing, not the odd unfortunate (but well supported) village.

We are easily rich enough to deal with a few days of heavy rain. 8% of our GDP is purely fictitious and represents most of the growth over the last few years. Imputed rents now make up 8% of GDP, when 5 years ago they made up just 6%.
