I know most of you on here don't have any sympathy for the homeless especially if they're foreign, but if you have 10 mins spare watch this short documentary about the shocking conditions they suffer and the nasty abuse regualrly hurled at them by various people.:(

Why do so many folk see the homeless as nothing than punch bags?

Media backed hype? Cameron has been banging on for the last few days on how he is controlling the press.

Amazing that people in their position can find room for compassion for others.

The guitarist with the Django Reinhardt fingers was quite a character,

"If you punch me it hurts, if you cut me I bleed. I am a human being, just like the Queen .......except my **** doesn't smell as bad as hers":hihi:

It's sad to see, but I recommend all watch it. Makes me shiver.

Notice how practically the people sleeping rough are single men without family. These people aren't deemed to be 'vulnerable'. They are. But the authorities don't do anything about it, and will refuse them help.

We need to make sure everybody has a home so that we can collectively call ourselves civilised human beings in the first place.

But also so that people of our society can become a part of our society, there are also very valid public health reasons for eradicating homelessness too.

That will come as a surprise to Housing Solutions at the council

and many other agencies dealing with the homeless

Why does the government or 'the authorities' have to be blamed for everything?

Isn't it just possible that some people create their own fortune, and are responsible for their own plight?

I recall a rather pertinent sig: 'Liberalism, the haunting fear that somebody, somewhere, might be responsible for themselves'.

Isn't that their function?

It shouldn't come as a surprise at all.

You clearly don't know how it works.

http://www.crisis.org.uk/data/files/publications/HiddenTruthAboutHomelessness_web.pdf

For the purposes of the study hidden homelessness was defined as ‘nonstatutory homeless people living outside mainstream housing provision’. That is:

• those who meet the legal definition of

homeless but to whom the local authority

owes no duty (because they have not

approached a local authority or because

the local authority has decided they are

not owed the main housing duty), AND

• whose accommodation is not supplied

by a housing/homelessness provider.

Homeless people aren't just given support. They are first investigated to determine if they are homeless. It is then decided whether or not the local authority has a duty of care.

Many single men who find themselves homeless can approach the local authority of the area they currently find themselves homeless in, be told that they are homeless and that the LA accepts they are homeless, but it has no duty of care so they won't be offered any help.
