£245 per household SERF tax.

Recommended Posts

Landless peasants who rent property, have mortgages or own freehold tenure each pay a £245 tax for being a serf. The serf tax is pooled and distributed to the lords of the land (and some of them own their land via companies registered in offshore tax havens - to make sure they don't pay tax!)

It is a source of perpetual wonder that the people of Europe tolerate this robbery. Farm subsidies are the 21st century equivalent of feudal aid: the taxes medieval vassals were forced to pay their lords for the privilege of being sat upon. The single payment scheme, which accounts for most of the money, is an award for owning land. The more you own, the more you receive.

By astonishing coincidence, the biggest landowners happen to be among the richest people in Europe. Every taxpayer in the EU, including the poorest, subsidises the lords of the land: not once, as we did during the bank bailouts, but in perpetuity. Every household in the UK pays an average of £245 a year to keep millionaires in the style to which they are accustomed. No more regressive form of taxation has been devised on this continent since the old autocracies were overthrown.

Is that the same George Monbiot that says naughty things about innocent people?

Also the CAP is aimed at the rich landowners in this country, its to protect ineffienct farmers in France.....Ours just take advantage of the sytem and who can blame them?

It would be nice if one day you commented on something you actually know (as opposed to "learn" off the net) something about.......

How are you landless if you have a mortgage that you are paying and maintaining and will one day own the land?

I'm going to regret this

Mortgage is debt.

Freehold is a form of tenure. (Although is widely assumed to be land ownership)

how is freehold a form of tenure? Ive asked you this a few times and you never answer?

Least that way I suppose it stops you ill educated threads in their tracks

Tenure is the holding, or posessing of something.

If you hold (and have paid in full for) the freehold on a piece of land, you have tenure over it.
