Status of EU citizens

Recommended Posts

Just wondered if in the unlikely event Britain left the EU would the poles and the rest have to leave the country?

No, if they're here lawfully. As foreign-domiciled people and nationals of foreign countries, their rights (or lack of rights) would be unaffected. They'd be just the same as people from other foreign countries.

As I understand it (maybe wrongly) anyone from the EU can come here to look for work...and be paid benefits etc whilst doing so...non EU residents can't..If we left the EU wouldn't this have to change?

Thats a suprise as I would have thought they would have to apply for a visa like everyone else.

A bit facetious, Jeffrey? I believe southcoast meant UK-domiciled EU (non-British) nationals ;)

Which begs the question, southcoast: why are you asking? (and yes, this is a loaded question)

Jeffrey's answer may be deliberately diplomatic as Nigel Farage's wife is German and the leader of UKIP can hardly promote a policy that would lead to his wife being deported.

The OP's question is unanswerable as whoever implemented the UK's withdrawal from the EU would have to deal with the nitty gritty of withdrawal. There would be negotiations with the EU and changes in UK law. How EU citizens living here at that time would be affected would depend on what was decided then. No one knows in other words. Also in question would be the status of British citizens living in other EU countries. If the UK joined the EEA on withdrawal there might be no effect at all on both sets of people.

UKIP has no animus against European people nor the EU. It simply wishes the UK not to be governed by them.

Probably not. Most rule changes as to status leave existing rights undisturbed.

Why have you got issues with my question ,are you polish or something, why I am asking is frankly none of your business

I suppose that like has been said it may depend on what the negotiators come up with.

You seem a bit defensive. I wouldn't have thought asking you for your motivation for a question you posted on an open forum was necessarily intrusive.

Could this explain your defensiveness and reluctance to answer?

Is it time for National Socialism to be looked at again?the idea of one nation one people and one race and the idea that we all working for one goal the nation state, and to be rid of class barriers and for us all to work for the common good.?
