SevenRivers
Agree with the above two posts. Imagine if he ever got mental health issues such as ptsd, could be looking at a dead wife and dead kids in a murder suicide.

Norseman
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20547557 An SAS soldier detained for 18 months for illegally possessing a pistol and ammunition has been released by the Court of Appeal. Sgt Danny Nightingale, 37, from Crewe, admitted possessing the 9mm Glock pistol and 338 rounds of ammunition at a court martial earlier this month. Judges at the Court of Appeal cut Nightingale's sentence to 12 months and suspended it. His wife Sally, 38, cried when the verdict was delivered. Nightingale thanked her and his supporters for their "trust and support" after walking from the central London court. The soldier's family and friends had argued he only pleaded guilty at the court martial after being warned he could face up to five years' detention if found guilty in a trial. The soldier had said he was given the gun as a present in Iraq. Lawyers for Nightingale said he did not pack the weapon and, because of a brain injury, forgot he had it. Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge, Mr Justice Fulford and Mr Justice Bean heard the legal argument at a hearing in the Court Martial Appeal Court. It seems common sense has prevailed. Danny Nightingale should be knighted for services to his country! Though the gun and ammo in the house is inexcusable, regardless of who you are you do not take your work home with you especially in that line of work

Norseman
Like what, specifically? Firstly both you (and I to a certain extent) have no idea where this ex squaddie has served. The fact he is a ex squaddie and the fact he was part of the worlds greatest regiment needs no explaination. All I was saying was that the gun issue should never have happened, it has, its in the past now leave him to get on with the rest of his life. He went public with this, not something to be recommended especially with the connection to 22 SAS as a sniper however there's always the threat of the Islamics out there who like to blow people up and stab innocent squaddies to death on the streets to contend with! You may recall the incident on a London street a few weeks ago? Its one thing to be an ex army sniper but another entirely different matter to do the same role in 22 SAS for that he has my upmost respect. The 9 month extra sniper training is extremely difficult to pass, I can't begin to imagine how hard it is in the regiment after the selection process The case is over leave him be to get on with his life, its not that he's gone into town armed to the teeth and blown away X number of innocent people after all is it, but it is something which needs to be addressed not only across the SAS but across the armed forces in general
