UKIP Immigration and Asylum Policy

Recommended Posts

I wonder how many people here calling for work camps, immediate expulsion, removal of human rights and the like would be willing to be placed under the same conditions themselves if they found themselves in a foreign country and their immigration / identity was unclear - e.g. after having your passport stolen in a holiday resort?

Do you really think that's the same thing?

How do you feel about this idea:

All those with a lawful claim to residence in UK get an identity card.

Maybe this could be in the form of a "dog chip" implanted somewhere.

All employers must see this ID.

Overseas visitors (such as Australians) would need a paper card with a validity date on it, and an option to renew.

If someone is found to have no ID, they go to a labour camp to perform necessary work in return for food and shelter, unless they choose to go home.

First, remember I asked how people felt about such a proposal, rather than advocating it.

Second, those I know who have had problems in other countries after losing their ID have been "rescued" by consular officials on application. Admittedly, in one case, it was with a document allowing them to return to the home country, rather than permission to remain in the country they were visiting indefinitely.

I don't think we are considering the holiday makers from (name of country here) whose passports were stolen, were we?

I wonder what UKIP would do about people like this failed asylum seeker caught working?

Suwareh, of Delta Way, Maltby, Rotherham, admitted fraud and was jailed for nine months.

She has two children that live in Gambia with her younger brother,

This is lunacy, she should have been put on the first flight back to her family and banned from ever returning to the UK.

Looking at the case a custodial sentence was required, though it would be better if it was served in the Gambia, not sure if we have a prisoner swap agreement with them though.

Sending someone back who has used endless counterfeit documents without punishment is just going to encourage them and others to try again with new fakes.

Faking an ID to work as a cleaner isn’t exactly the crime of the century though is it and it doesn’t say anything about defrauding the benefits system or tax office which would have been more serious.

On one level it's not the crime of the century. However if we let this sort of thing slide then we can forget about controlling immigration.

She made her way through europe on a string of fake IDs. She made a spurious asylum claim in her own ID and then worked "legally" on a bogus ID. If we let that slide without punishment then every economic migrant on the planets going to be heading here. Win the asylum claim and you're legit, lose and you just become the person on your fake ID.

Whatever our immigration policy is, it has to be able to be enforced, and zero tolerance for those who use fake documents is an essential pillar of that.
