NERVY-OWL Posted January 14, 2018 Share Posted January 14, 2018 we have just got the radiator put back on the wall in the small room upstairs however we don't seem to be getting any heat from it. we haven't owned the house long so not sure if it was working when we took it off. one pipe up to the radiator does get warm however the pipe on the other side stays stone cold. is it likely to just need the system draining or could it be more serious? any ideas before i get a plumber out for it. Try turning all the other radiators off and see if its air in the return pipe stopping it getting warm. If this doesn't help then it could be a problem with the valve. If it's a thermostatic radiator valve and been turned off for a long time it may be stuck on its seating. If that's the case remove trv header and try moving the pin beneath up and down. FORE Posted January 18, 2018 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Baxi 105he combi frequently goes into lockdown when not used for a few hours. Flame failure light flashes. Resetting usually gives following:- Ignites but packs up after about 10secs. Has another couple of attempts then lockdown repeats. Can get boiler going by turning on DHW while boiler is lit for that 10 seconds. THEN once water has run hot up to top temperature, if central heating is switched on it will perform OK. IF we do not let hot water get up to temp for a minute, the CH refuses, and it switches off and goes back into lockdown (maybe after a couple more attempts and 10 secs being lit). gas safe guy replaced flame sensing electrode and commented that condensate tank was fine, clear and not blocked. Problem is also when electrode was replaced it was working (as with each resetting procedure), but after no use for 1/2 day wouldn't ignite on timed and needed resetting etc once more. The boiler appears to be working ok but not to the times set on the control panel. Any thoughts? The programmer (control panel) is probably working to timings set by previous owner. There are lot of combinations of time setting!, the programmer user instructions should tell you how to reset the programmer to the original factory settings. The concern is that even with the control panel turned to Off, the heating still comes on based on reaching the thermostat setting. My Bold if (and i think it will be) it is the same as mine, when the control panel is turned off it goes to Frost Temp, so your pipes dont freeze up, It looks to me as it all wants resetting, a factory reset is good advice. Having reset the boiler several times, and played about for a while trying to figure out what it's doing, I've observed that if heating + hot water are demanded, I get both. If heating alone is on demand, then the boiler doesn't come on. We have a tank for hot water, so that's on a timer, as is heating. If I override both to immediate demand, I get heating. If only turn on heating (or the timer does) then nothing. My best guess is a thermostat problem, but that doesn't totally make sense. If the thermostat were reporting no demand, then even when the hot water was demanded the radiators still shouldn't get hot, but they do. So I guess it could be the timer/controller, but again that doesn't fully explain it I don't think. The 3 way valve appears to be functioning, at least I can hear it change position when something is demanded. The boiler itself seems to be fine when it gets triggered to do something. The thermostat makes a faint click when you turn the dial up, which is normal and sounds like the relay closing.
