Could I still get flu despite having had the flu jab?

Recommended Posts

^^^This.

I couldn't shower for days (TMI), because I couldn't even get myself to the bathroom. Luckily I didn't need the loo because I couldn't stomach anything more than a few sips of water, which I proceeded to sweat out constantly. 'Twas lovely.

If it gets that bad you've got flu. I do know of people who have been ill a week or so after having the flu jab. Anyhoo, read this on the NHS page:

No vaccine is 100% effective, however, people who have had the flu jab are less likely to get flu. If you do get flu despite having the jab, it will probably be milder than if you haven’t been vaccinated.

The flu jab doesn’t cause flu as it doesn’t contain live viruses. However, you may experience side effects after having the jab, such as a temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days afterwards. Your arm may feel sore at the site where you were injected. More severe reactions are rare.

The flu vaccine only protects against flu, but not other illnesses caused by other viruses, such as the common cold.

Have you just had the flu jab? If so this could be a reaction to the vaccine, rather than the flu itself. I feel somewhat similar the day after I have a flu jab but it's far far preferable to actually getting flu itself.

I had the jab on November 5th, and had no reaction to it at all, apart from a sore arm, so I doubt it's that.

I'm feeling a bit better today, still a bit cold and not overly hungry but I have eaten. Maybe I'm just exhausted and my body's giving up on me :suspect:
