EASTWOOD141
It costs more than £25 to feed a prisoner. Skimping on food is stoking up future health problems. Eat well, then worry about the rest............. Put em back on bread and water, that's that one solved, plus it might reduce the crime rate. alwaysright1
£13 for meat is ample for one person for a week. I shop for 6 of us and don't spend £75 on meat a week . M and S / others often have 3 for £10 on meats which would easily feed one person for a week eg pack of stew beef (2 meals) small roast chicken (2-3 meals) pack of 4 pork loins (4 meals) add in a pack of good mince £3 (2 meals) and for £13 there are actually 11 meals. Just glad i am not one of your family, poor kids ---------- Post added 09-12-2012 at 14:02 ---------- I didn't say that it was my budget. ---------- Post added 09-12-2012 at 11:34 ---------- What are you expecting, organic chicken? The title says reasonably healthy, the meats as described and the fruit and veg would be a reasonably healthy diet. dont everyone buy organic eggs and free range corn feeded chicken

pottedplant
Read the Title! No one mentioned a family or kids. I eat healthy for around twenty pounds a week. I mentioned mine and always(not)right1 presumed I fed them rubbish. The irony is that we do eat mainly organic/ free range which he seems to advocate. ---------- Post added 09-12-2012 at 15:19 ---------- Just glad i am not one of your family, poor kids ---------- Post added 09-12-2012 at 14:02 ---------- dont everyone buy organic eggs and free range corn feeded chicken do you mean doesn't? Ms Macbeth
Although we spend more than £20 each a week on food these days, we have lived frugally in the past. We still make big pots of veg soup that last us for three days, and only cost about £3 for the carrots, leeks and perhaps a spud or two, lentils or barley and a couple of stock cubes. With wholemeal bread its a great winter warmer and pretty healthy. Our smallest granddaughter loves it and its a great way to ensure kids eat veg! Two eggs and some grated cheese or a few mushrooms make an omelette; cheese or eggs on toast is filling; shepherd's pie with diced carrots and onion, plus a green veg on the side is pretty cheap. If I was on my own I'd make one that lasted a couple of days or an even bigger one and freeze portions. There are nearly always bargains to be had in fruit and veg, bread can be frozen so its not wasted. Tinned fruit (counts as one of 5 a day) with natural yoghurt is a cheap pudding.
