Having been featured on the BBC's Culture Show, as well as having been named number 24 in the Quietus' 75 albums of 2012 (http://thequietus.com/articles/10924-the-quietus-albums-of-the-year-2012), it's been a seriously special year for the project. Delia Derbyshire Day 2013 will be the first of its kind. It will be a day to celebrate and highlight the fascinating work of Delia Derbyshire (1937-2001), the pioneering electronic music composer who worked for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and is most famous for realising the original Dr Who theme in 1963. The night will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary The Delian Mode with the Canadian film director Kara Blake introducing the film in person. The event will be the premiere of the three new commissions by Ailís Ní Ríain, Caro C and Naomi Kashiwagi, with live visual accompaniment by Kara Blake. It will also feature three new music-based commissions by Delia Darlings - a female trio of Manchester based artists working in music and sound paying sonic homage to Delia Derbyshire having spent time with her archives at the University of Manchester. Delia Darlings are Ailís Ní Ríain (contemporary classical), Caro C (was caro snatch - experimental electronic) and Naomi Kashiwagi (gramophonica).
