neepsendlane
It makes sense to remove the passes which were available only for reasons of religion, and therefore unavailable to all the other children who are forced to pay full fares for having beliefs which were not RC.Councillors have to attend meetings and give their time freely to execute their duties while many others simply sit back and carp. ---------- Post added 13-12-2012 at 13:02 ---------- To see you noce. Freely?-------I thought they were on £11,000 plus expencies etc, etc, etc. No doubt planner 1 will tell us why his gaffers need their perks. Why dont you put yourself as an independent as you have many views to express and seem to represent Mr Average? We need grassroots people to speak on our behalf. wobblybob50
Do we need 3 councellors to each ward now that the council have given most of the work to private contractors ie Roads, Bins and cleaning and housing repairs?
navyblue
Councillors choose to attend these meetings as no one forces them to become councillors. These kids have little or no choice where they are schooled. Of course they have a choice. They choose to go to religious schools. So why should we pay the bus fare for them? navyblue
Why should we pay for a councillor's weekend shopping parking? Do you have proof of this? if so you should take it to the correct authority. Councillors whether you like em or not are entitled to parking expenses when on council business. If you don't agree get on the council and change it.

Apparently not... "In addition, councillors are entitled to free city centre parking permits - which can also be used at weekends"
Jew Boy
All catholic schools are opt in,and other local schools are provided within walking distance. No one forces councillors to stand but many do it because there would be a political vacuum which might otherwise be filled by small groups of unrepresentative candidates ,some of which are antisemitic, racist etc. Many do it for the expenses accounts too. Tony
There's no reason why any councillor should pay their own expenses, but you'd imagine that a transparent system of end-of-month returns like everyone else is used to would do just fine. Do they really get free parking and bus travel whether on council business or not? Surely not, they would have to declare that on their tax return as a benefit in kind.
