Councillors scrap bus passes for kids - but keep their own

There's no reason why any councillor should pay their own expenses, but you'd imagine that a transparent system of end-of-month returns like everyone else is used to would do just fine.

Do they really get free parking and bus travel whether on council business or not? Surely not, they would have to declare that on their tax return as a benefit in kind.

It's what's reported in the article in the OP..

Do we need 3 councellors to each ward now that the council have given most of the work to private contractors ie Roads, Bins and cleaning and housing repairs?

Take your point, but I wonder what day to day involvement the councillors would have had with these services even when under authority control.

As it turns out, on a per capita basis we get pretty good 'value' form our councillors.

City /Population /Councillors /People per Councillor

Sheffield /551,800 /84 /6569

Manchester /441,184 /96 /4596

Bristol /398,276 /70 /5690

Birmingham /1,001,185 /120 /8343
